I basically view the new home page as an ad. It exists for the reasons
brochures do: to be attractive to potential new users. Beyond the
front-most page, I think its usefulness is limited and should defer to
the wiki.

The problem with the wiki is not that it's a wiki. There are lots of
well-organized and pretty wikis out there. The problem is that few
people have taken it upon themselves to make that organization happen.
Putting the site in a repository where people have to submit patches is
not going to make that happen more easily and often than just editing it
yourself in situ. Ergo, we will not be moving to handling a significant
portion of our content outside the wiki, just the brochure-ware.

Similarly, no one has taken it upon themselves to make the wiki
prettier. Don't like the layout? It's a simple matter to fiddle with the
CSS and send me a patch.
