unable to access repositories in hgwebdir.cgi after update to hg 1.2

After updating to hg 1.2, my 'allow_read' options in the [web] section 
of repositories published over http using hgwebdir.cgi, suddenly don't 
work anymore.
The persons that are allowed to read a given repository _can_ see a link 
appearing in the repository listing, but when clicking on it, one gets a:

'An error occurred while processing your request: read not authorized'

If I change the read permissions to 'allow_read = *' then things work 
again, but that of course is not my intention.

- Can this have anything to do with the unfortunate situation that the 
webserver is running the old python 2.3.4?
- Other ideas?
