hg convert syntax -- strange "-s svn" behavior?

Could you try to first do a subversion checkout (you need not complete it,
just start it:
$ svn co https://vim-latex.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/vim-latex/
(please note the https)
And then try to convert again using https?
$ hg convert https://vim-latex.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/vim-latex/
