The backport workflow of the Python team is a pain.
We have at work a similar problem: most of the team is dedicated to the
upcoming upstream release. Few people are in charge of backporting a
selection of bug fix on older releases. So that the standard workflow to fix it
in stable and merge in main will not make it.

The older the release, the more difficult it is to backport the correction.
The transplant extension is a start, but last time I looked did not have a GUI
interface to ease the merge.

I am interested if somebody has experienced a solution to handle this workflow
efficiently.
