It's a different application of code reuse, and it's not necessarily
bad. However, it is funny to follow the "git lib-ification"
discussion threads at the mailing list.
And, by the way, I think the Gnome comunity needs much more developer
pressure in order to migrate from SVN to a DVCS. They have a couple
of uncovered workflow related issues in this regard. Take the LLVM
people, for example. They chose SVN instead of a DVCS on purpose,
because such a centralized model forced all their developers to be
more up to date.
Also, git and bzr have a more popular "leader figure". It may seem
irrelevant, but Linus and Mark can reach further in press, and their
entourage tends to be more loyal.
It is clear that this is more a matter of community than anything
else. So unless we manage to get Steve Jobs promoting Mercurial, for
each Hg evangelist there will be two for bzr and four or more of git.
Most of the people are scared of being part of a minority. That's why
minorities exist.
