He said the effort would be gigantic, so that's why I asked if it would be OK
for him, if I did all the work.
No need to read any status message or anything until all contributors to the
current codebase said yes - the result would most probably just be a place to
point people with GPLv3 questions to (help contacting all those. Before that
nothing can happen -> no discussions anymore). But if I'd be able to reach all
contributors (and if they agree), that would offer a whole host of new
possibilities for Mercurial - and it's something where I feel competent to do
a real contribution.
I don't know if I'd be able to reach all, and I doubt that all would agree.
Still I'd like to at least try to reach all (I *really* like the GPLv3 -
especially the AGPL option) - but if Matt says no, it's not even worth writing
a single email - I did a churn on the repo :).
The proposal that someone else would do all the work wasn't there before (at
least not in the discussions I read during the past 18 months), so I thought
that this might change something - else I wouldn't have written it :)
