Yes, there's always that chance.
I now know that when I started using FreeBSD and Mercurial (the two most
visible projects I am involved in the last few years) most of my
questions sounded naive and newbie-ish. In time, experience kicked in
and I started answering some of them too :)
If Patrick likes Mercurial and he sticks around, I'm sure he will soon
be able to answer questions of Mercurial newbies himself. Given enough
time, he may even become a prominent Mercurial developer, who submits
useful and beautifully written patches.

I fully agree. My dislike of forums is probably part of the `old style'
mindset of someone who has used mailing lists and Usenet for more than
15 years now. I vastly prefer mailing lists for discussing anything
that is more serious that `hey, let's go out for a coffee this Sunday'.
