"hg diff" performance issues on an open-source project

I received the following note from one of the open-source projects I am
associated with that has been using Mercurial for the last 12 months:

> I'm planning to move the source-code repository from Mercurial to git
> in the next few days. This change is prompted by slugish performance
> of Mercurial on some operations I use frequently, such as "hg diff",

He actually agreed to talk to some folks about his concerns, and I'd
like to connect him with someone from here who could either identify the
misconfiguration (he has conceded that this may be the case) or at least
log the fact that there is a real performance concern.

Yes, I'm being a bit cagey about this as I'm trying to avoid having
legions of Fanboys(tm) descend on the situation (mostly Git-diots, but
Mercurial zealots also exist...).

If someone would be willing to talk to him, drop me an email and I'll
connect you directly.

Thanks,
