rebasing only a single changeset

This is slightly off-topic, but what is the generally-recommended way of
cherry-picking individual changesets from one branch to another (or from
one clone to another)? My understanding is that there is currently no
good way of doing that, short of using diff / patch, but I would love to
be proven wrong.
