Please check the followup mail (Paul found the Problem, too). 

The followup is done on the Python 2.x branches, which have roughly the same 
number of changesets. 

The results is that Mercurial was about 9 times faster than Bazaar, but the 
test was done with Bazar 1.5 and I've been told that the recently released 
1.8.1 (which isn't yet marked as stable in my Gentoo portage tree) offers some 
speed improvements.
