two factors for switching to Mercurial

May I ask you: which are other packages you're trying?

I know it's stupid answer on your questions, but Bazaar VCS
handle both your requests: empty directories and lightweight
checkouts. But as many people said: bzr is a bit slower than
Mercurial.
