I can, but such an argument is off-topic here. (Hint: it has to do  
with the sorts of expectations non-geeks have about the way names  
work, and the consequent adjustments made by user-friendly OS's.)

In any case, as Patrick pointed out, the Mac OS defaults to a case- 
insensitive filesystem too (though it's possible to install a case- 
sensitive one), so I think it's valuable for Mercurial to accommodate  
the way every mainstream OS other than Linux* works.
