Hmm, I do get the icons in that case.

Did you wait a few seconds and try hitting F5 multiple times after
changing the settings?

The overlayicon cache needs to time out for any change to take effect.

Could you try killing all explorer.exe processes and restart
explorer.exe (Start -> run...)
