To fetch the list of changesets one could already use the RSS feed 
generated by the web interface. Or use the ssh trick suggested by Matt.

Maybe someone could write an extension which hooks in the log command to 
do those things.

Using JSON/XML to extend the web interface would be quite a interesting 
thing though... :)
