Sorry, I was reading the webpage and didn't see that it was possible to
install in a different location.
I downloaded the package and installed it in a different path. I can
type "hg" from the commandline and it works.

The default path is just a suggestion. I've installed into other paths
before. Is something breaking when you try that?
