	OK, I figured it out and prepared a patch (attached).

	All but two tests pass on my system, and I confirmed that they did  
not pass before this revision (test-convert-darcs and test-doctest.py  
on OS X 10.4.10 with python 2.4.4 from  macports).

	You can also pull my patch from here:

		http://hg.west.spy.net/hg/hacks/hg/

	(91a0681b47d4 unless I need to edit it)
