include/exclude

What is the status on some kind of .hgincldue to mirror .hgignore? I 
found a couple of threads on this topic on the list. They mention a 
patch that seems neither to have been accepted nor explicitely rejected 
as well as --exclude and --include command line options but these don't 
seem to apply to the 'hg add' command, as I would have expected.

So, given a source tree with all sorts of files in it, how do I create a 
repo that contains only, say, *.foo and *.bar files and only in certain 
directories? First I do 'hg init' and then?
