It's trivial to reproduce.  No tarball required.

~/hg $ hg clone hg hg-badguy
~/hg $ cd hg-badguy/
~/hg/hg-badguy $ echo argh > argh
~/hg/hg-badguy $ hg add argh
~/hg/hg-badguy $ hg commit -targh argh
~/hg/hg-badguy $ hg export tip

    -> boom!
